“He is such a Hunk,” my mom use to say about Robert Redford. A Hunk indeed, a Cinematic Hunk that brought us great films in front and behind the camera for over 6 decades. He founded and ran the Sundance Film festival for almost 40 years spawning a countless number of filmmakers. Movie Stats everywhere you look for this guy.
But here are a few reason’s why I’ll miss Redford. NOT because he won over Raging Bull & Scorsese in the 1981 Oscars for Best Director. But his natural handsomeness and innocence in The Natural. His storytelling and Voiceover in A River Runs Through It. The charm and elegance he had in Gastby and I watched that for the first time in school while I was trying to catch a nap. The pure joy he and Newman seemed to have while shooting their movies. Everything about him in Spy Game. The way he played the CIA. I watch it over and over and over. How I still loved him in Indecent Proposal for what he did to Diana and David. And Up Close and Personal feels a little more sad now. One of the last true Movie Stars and filmmakers, terms that are becoming obsolete as each day passes. “And then a River Runs through it…”
